Circle, the issuer of the USDC stablecoin, has contributed 1 million USDC to President-elect Donald Trump’s inaugural committee. CEO Jeremy Allaire announced the donation, highlighting it as a significant milestone for digital currencies.
“We are excited to be building a great American company, and the fact that the Committee took payment in USDC is an indicator of how far we have come, and the potential and power of digital dollars,” Allaire stated.
This contribution is part of a broader trend of substantial donations from major tech companies and executives to the Trump-Vance Inaugural Committee, which has set a fundraising goal of $150 million for the inauguration events. Notable donors include Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg, and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, each pledging $1 million.
The acceptance of USDC by the inaugural committee signifies a growing recognition and integration of digital currencies into mainstream financial activities. This development underscores the increasing influence of the cryptocurrency industry within the U.S. economy, particularly as the incoming administration is expected to foster a more favorable regulatory environment for crypto assets.
